Local’s Lowdown

We’ve all been there…and moving is hard. There are so many factors and questions involved that it can feel overwhelming. But that shouldn’t stop you from living exactly where you want to. More and more people are making Evergreen into their home…and we’re not just talking about homeowners. The number of out-of-town renters is on the rise. How hard is the transition…and is it worth it? Let’s hear from some newcomers-turned-locals, Kirsten and Brady.

1. What made you want to live in Evergreen?

We had found a rental house on Zillow in Conifer that we drove up to check out. On our way back to Denver we drove through Evergreen and instantly decided this is the town we wanted to live in. From then we started looking only in Evergreen for rental houses!

2. Where did you move from?

Lubbock, TX

3. What was the hardest part adjusting to Evergreen life?

The hardest part for us was preparing for a long winter with a lot of unknowns. Coming from Texas we didn’t have much experience with snow so we were anxious to see how that would play out. We got AWD and 4WD vehicles, snow tires, shovels, windshield fluid, etc. and made it through our first winter alright!

4. What has been the best surprise living in Evergreen?

The best surprise has been the amount of young adults we have met that are basically in the same stage of life as us! We assumed that this would be an older community due to the prices and distance from Denver, but we have made so many great friends our age.

5. How long did it take you to find a rental?

It took us 2-3 months to find a rental. The townhome we ended up getting was not listed for rent yet, but we had met the property owner and he gave us a heads up that it would be listed soon. We were able to put a deposit down before it was ever listed.

6. How long do you plan on renting?

We plan on renting 2-3 more years.

7. How has your experience renting in Evergreen differed from other places you have lived?

The prices in Evergreen, and Colorado in general, are much higher than we saw in Texas. It made it hard to justify the move at first, but we are so happy we did it.

8. What do you love most about Evergreen?

Our favorite thing about Evergreen is our church community at Ascent Church. We were welcomed in so quickly and have met so many wonderful people.

9. Any local tips to share?

Grab a German donut from Alpine bakery and walk around the lake

10. Summer or winter?

Summer! The green grass, active wildlife, afternoon thunderstorms, and hummingbirds cannot be beat!
